Enterprise-A was built in year 2238 as USS Yorktown in San franciso "dry dock". In 70's of  23.rd century ship came through major modernisations like others ships of Constitution class. After this from docks came out totally new brand ship. Improwed were engines - warp and also impulse drive, deflector sensors and ship interior.
For this big improwement the class, these ships were named as Constitution refit.

After destruction of first Enterprise was USS Yorktown renamed to USS Enterprise and sent under command to James Tiberius Kirk - Voyages to unknown could continue.

In movie "Wrath of Khan" Enterprise fought against USS Reliant (Miranda class) which was stolen by Khan Noonien Singh. The final battle both ships fought in Mutara Nebula , when Kirk used skills of his crew to heavily damage Reliant. Khan as last act of his rewenge activated on Reliant Genesis device , Enterprise escaped few seconds before explosion of genesis.

In movie "The search for Spock" was ship docked at starbase , where was decomissioned from service for her major damage after battle in Mutara nebula.
Kirk needed ship to find and save his friend Spock, for this he stole damaged Enterprise and flew away from starbase to orbit of planet Genesis. There was Enterprise attacked by Klingon warbird. Enterprise was disabled after short battle and boarded by Klingons. Kirk with his crew was teleported on planet genesis and Enterprise was destroyed by autodestruction with klingons on board.

in movie "The final forntier"  was Kirk demoted to captain for stealing federation ship.
His new ship was again Constitution refit class (renamed Yorktown). After this Kirk was sent to solve crysis on planet Nimbus where was arrested Federation,Klingon and Romulan ambassadors . After arrival of Enterprise the situation turned into trap made by Spock's stepbrother Sybok. Sybok used his abilities and influence to force up crew of Enterprise to obedience. He used Enterprise to find the god at the center of the galaxy. There was a small planet and instead of god wery powerfull entity.

In stardate 9521.6 the Klingon moon Praxis exploded. The Klingon empire was knocked down because on praxis had Klingons theirs key power source. Explosion also affected atmosphere of theirs home planet Qo'nos so much that the planet could be inhospitaple in fifty years.
this forced klingons to make alliance with Federation.
Spock was commisioned as federation ambassador.
Enterprise-A escorted Klingon chancellor when something unexcepted happened. Klingon battlecruiser was heavily damaged by photon torpedo and it seemed the shot came from Enterprise. Klingon chancellor was dead and for this Kirk was jailed. At the it showed up the shot came from cloaked Klingon warbird. It was act of plot against Federation and Klingon alliance conferrence. This plot was created by human and also Klingon opponents. Cloaked warbird was destroyed on orbit of planet Khitomer by Enterprise-A with cooperation of USS Excelsior. On this planet was held "Khitomer" conferrence.

This was the last mission of Enterprise-A. After this was decomissioned from Federation inventory.
